(a temporary hut for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot).

A Mezuza designed according to the same aesthetic codes as the Red and Blue Sukkah, using the same wood species and color palettes. The Mezuza is an object that exists beyond time, in contrast to the ephemeral nature of the Sukkah. It was conceived with the aim of connecting these two worlds, bridging an iconic design monument, Gerrit Rietveld's "red and blue" chair, with the rich history and traditions of the Jewish people.

As a Jewish designer, I aim to connect both worlds, the artistic and the spiritual. Sometimes it’s a quest and sometimes it comes organically. For the Red and Blue Sukkah project, it was like an evidence. The inspiration behind the design comes from a 20th century minimalist movement that reduces every color and shape towards its purest shape. Everyone is invited to be part of the Sukkah, to interact within and with it, and also to spread its Jewish aesthetic as well as it’s aim to be a functional art installation.

The sukkah was built according to halachic constraints and based on the original proportions of the iconic Gerrit Rietveld "red and blue" chair. The sukkah is presented as a functional item as a tribute and in recognition of the contribution of the artist to the design world of the twentieth century. Installing the Sukkah in the public space is an invitation to anyone to take part of it. The sukkah is engraved with a verse which is an invitation to every citizen, every resident, whatever their background in the city. Everyone has a place in the Sukkah.

Deuteronomy 16:13
Be joyful at your festival—you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites, the foreigners, the orphan and the widow who lives among you.
