Standing Chair
07.10.23 or the need to create a work in response.
The “Standing Chair” is a necessary installation to better envision the future.
Inexhaustible
The Jewish people are an inexhaustible source of tragic moments, massacres, pogroms.
“It would take me three days just to name all the pogroms from Spain, Russia, Poland and North Africa.” Herbert Pagani.
In the aftermath of October 7, the feeling of being only the continuation of a multitude of tragic events affecting this nomadic people, who have never ceased to aspire to live in peace between nations in the land of their ancestors.
Yet there is hope in this tragic aftermath, each time we get back up.
The next day the slogan “We Will Dance Again” was born as obvious.
What an effort, getting up and getting back to dancing after collapsing.
Standing
In the Jewish liturgy, the main prayer takes place while standing, offering a moment of deep introspection. A thought-provoking reading of 19 consecutive blessings. During this personal silence, concentration remains a challenge and the mind can wander through various thoughts. Even when reciting with fervor, the mind remains powerful and conducive to escape.
In general, standing is a natural posture for humans in an action that leads to movement. Standing and stilling your body is a rare moment. Stillness invites prayer and introspection, freeing the body to follow the mind.
Hope
Once standing, the inclined backrest supports a still fragile back and heavy legs. The armrests transform into crutches to raise your head and look towards the horizon. The hope of staying upright, breathing and smiling again awakens.
After the mourning, the ambition to build a better future on the ruins of our suffering. for generations to come is looming.
The other
Once trauma is identified, it is crucial to examine and share it. By confronting our own difficulties and engaging in dialogue with the stranger or the erstwhile enemy, we realize that our sufferings are not unique.
Everyone has their own story and seeks to rebuild themselves. The “Standing Chair” is a link between people, suffering is universal and everyone should be able to nourish a glimmer of optimism and learn to get back up.
